First Lego League Challenge - Grades 5-8 In-Person

Tolland County Robotics is back. Students in grades 5-8 - register early to reserve your spot in the First Lego League Challenge program. The team meets in the library 2 days per week every week, Monday and Thursday 5:00-7:45pm from Monday, Aug. 31 to Thursday, Dec.10. The program ends with a competition with 20 other teams in the area. Learn more about the program and its benefits.

Registration is through Tolland County Robotics. Slots fill quickly and we have a very small number of openings. If you are able to make the 2-day/week commitment, register here

Former participants and current volunteers with the program said:

  • The deep value of this program is the journey and what you learn along the way.

  • The most important things you get out of the program are skills you don't even realize you are developing: communication, teamwork, and presentation skills, project management, and comfort speaking to others, to name a few.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge: Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students in grades 5-8 engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering—building and programming a LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. They also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.

Tolland County Robotics Foundation: The Tolland County Robotics Foundation is a nonprofit that inspires K-12 students to be leaders and innovators by engaging them in exciting mentor-based robotics programs that foster well-rounded life capabilities including teamwork, self-confidence, and leadership. The program is provided free of charge and is funded by donations and grants.

The student's experience culminates with an end-of-the-year competition in January where they'll compete with over 20 teams from around the state.  A select few teams will then be invited to the Connecticut State Championship.
